Newton Girls Lacrosse has been dedicated to providing Newton girls and their families a community based developmental lacrosse program since 1999.  NGL played their first games in 2000.  The program delivers a fun, safe and inclusive youth sports environment.  The goals of this instructional program is teaching girls sportsmanship, lacrosse skills, and to be a good team player.

A current US Lacrosse membership (must be renewed each year) is required to register with NGL and is available on the US Lacrosse website.

UPDATE: Unfortunately, we have had to cancel the 2020 season due to COVID-19.  NGL will be issuing refunds.  But...this doesn't mean you can keep practicing with your athletes in your backyards!  Looking forward to 2021!

2020 season We have some fun NGL events planned for the 2020 season including a 20 year celebration!  We will also have another POP party with music and popsicles for all teams and attend more Womens BC lacrosse games together.

Registration for the spring season of NGL opens the prior November 1st and closes the first week in January each year (January 3rd is the deadline for the 2020 season).  Registration closes so early as our league requires us to register teams in January.  Registration is open for girls in grades 1-8 who live in or attend school in Newton.  Players are guaranteed a spot on a team by registering by this deadline.

Practices Grades 3-8 will practice 2 days a week starting on 3/23.  The first 3 practices will be on indoor turf. Subject to Newton Parks and Rec approval we hope have the 2 day a week practices on Mon and Wed 6-7:15 at Weeks field.  We will not get approval until close to the season.
Grades 1-2 will practice indoors on Sundays 3/22, 3/29 and 4/5 then will join grades 3-8 starting on 4/13 for Monday/Wednesday practices, but will only practice 6-7pm.
Teams When grade 1-2 teams are made we try to keep schools together.  Our goal with all other teams is to make them evenly skilled.  One mutual friend request is allowed for grades 3-8.  Girls must play at their grade level.  Grades are combined when teams are made so grades 1 and 2 play together, 3 and 4 play together, 5 and 6 play together and 7 and 8 play together.

Games against other towns are on Sunday afternoons and in 2020 will most likely be:
For grades 3/4, 5/6 and 7/8 (8 games on 4/5, 4/19, 4/26, 5/3, 5/10, 5/17, 5/31, 6/7)

For grades 1/2 (1 town scrimmage with our Newton teams playing each other and 4 league games, town scrimmage on 5/3, league games on 5/10, 5/17, 5/31, 6/7)

A Jamboree will be held on June 14th for the 2020 season at Lincoln-Sudbury High School - a great end-of-season event for players in all of the towns in the league!  You can choose if you want your daughter to participate in this event or not.  We will send out more information during the season regarding this event and looking for a headcount of who wants to play.

Equipment required for all players: a girls' lacrosse stick, girls' lacrosse goggles, and a colored mouth guard (clear and white mouth guards are illegal in girls' lacrosse).  Although optional we also recommend cleats and a water bottle.  Lacrosse gloves or any other kind of glove that will still allow girls to hold their stick are highly recommended for early in the season when it is cold out.  No jewelry is allowed when playing- please do not pierce ears just prior to or during the season.
Select Teams These are teams that grade 5/6 and 7/8 girls can potentially play on in addition to the Newton Rec League team.
These teams offer the opportunity for players to play more competitive lacrosse. These teams will play games on 6 Friday nights during the season, 4/10, 4/17, 5/1, 5/8, 5/15, 5/29.  For our 2020 season we will have tryouts.  Girls must come to one tryout, but are encouraged to come to both.  Tryout time and dates will be announced soon.
Uniforms  We were excited to introduce new uniforms in 2018 and are continuing to use the same uniforms in 2020!  We are also hoping to offer shorts as an alternative to skirts (either could be worn).   Girls wear their uniform tops to all practices as these act as pinnies.  Girls are expected to wear their entire uniform, tops and skirts/shorts to all games.
