Newton Girls Lacrosse has been dedicated to providing Newton youth and their families a community based developmental lacrosse program since 1999.  NGL played their first games in 2000.  The program delivers a fun, safe and inclusive youth sports environment.  The goals of this instructional program is teaching sportsmanship, lacrosse skills, and to be a good team player.

Registration for the spring season of NGL opens the November 1st and closes the first week in January for grades 3-8 and the first week in March for grades 1-2 (January 8th is the deadline for the 2023 season for grades 3-8 and March 1st is the deadline for grades 1-2).  Registration closes for grades 3-8 in early January as our league requires us to register teams the second week of January. Players are guaranteed a spot on a team by registering by this deadline.  Registration fees are $100 for grades 1/2, $200 for grades 3/4 and $220 for grades 5/6 and 7/8.  Financial assistance is available.

Practices Typcially grades 1-8 practice 2 days a week. In 2023 we plan on starting earlier than in past seasons. These early practices will be held indoors at The Edge in Bedford.

Indoor
Our door Early Season program dates are currently being finalized. We have secured indoor space The Eddge bubble in Bedford. We expect to have optional training oppportunities starting from late February and wrapping up at the end of March.

Outdoor

Subject to Newton Parks and Rec approval, starting on Monday March 27, 2023, we hope to have the practices twice a week on Mon and Wed 6-7:15pm at Weeks field for grades 3-8. For grades 1-2 practices will be held Wed 6-7pm and Sunday morning for 1 hour at Weeks field. Our practice schedule will not be fully confirmed until we get we will not get approval from the City closer to the planned outdoor start date.

Teams When grade 1-2 teams are made players in the same grade at the same school are placed together.  Our goal with all other teams is to make them evenly skilled.  One mutual friend request is allowed for grades 3-8.  Players must play at their grade level.  Grades are combined when teams are made so grades 1 and 2 play together, 3 and 4 play together, 5 and 6 play together and 7 and 8 play together.

Games against other towns are on Sundays anywhere from mid-morning to late afternoon and in 2023 will be:

For grades 3/4, 5/6 teams will compete in two intramural games, six travel games and one tournement style jamboree (optional, likley on May 21). Precise travel game sshedules will be available closer to the season.

For grades 7/8 teams will compete in eight travel games and one tournement style jamboree (optional, likley on May 21). Precise travel game schedules will be available closer to the season.

For grades 1/2 (this will be an in-town or house league program. Games will be played between the 1/2 Newton teams and will will be incorporated into the practices as the season progresses.

A Jamboree will be held this year, but will look different from past years.  The date is likley to be SUnday May 21 and will likely be held in Devens MA.

Equipment required for all players: a girls rules lacrosse stick, lacrosse goggles, and a colored mouth guard (clear and white mouth guards are not permitted).  Although optional we also recommend cleats and a water bottle.  Lacrosse gloves or any other kind of glove that will still allow players to hold their stick are highly recommended for early in the season when it is cold out.  No jewelry is allowed when playing- please do not pierce ears just prior to or during the season.

Select Teams These are teams that grade 5/6 and 7/8 players can potentially play on in addition to the Newton Rec League team.

These teams offer the opportunity for players to play more competitive lacrosse. These teams will play games on 8 Friday nights during the season and compete in a pool play one day tournement on Friday May 19. Results of the pool play tournement will drive the playoff schedule that begins in June.  We are finalizing our approach to select tryouts. The approach may differ for the two teams. We want to provide and equitable process for all players to be assessed.

Uniforms Players in grades 3-8 wear their uniform tops to all practices as these act as pinnies and they are expected to wear their entire uniform, tops and skirts/shorts to all games. Players in grades 1/2 will be given a uniform top to wear to all practices.
